In Valkyrie Profile you play as the goddess of the 6th rank, Valkyrie. However, her true name is Lenneth Valkyrie and she governs the present. She is middle sister to Silmeria and Hrist (also known as Ahly), and is one of the three "Goddesses of Fate". She is known as "Chooser of the Slain", but is also sometimes referred to as a "Death Goddess", this because her task is to decide a person's fate after death. Valkyrie stays in your party throughout the entire game, and is the most versatile character, as she is able to wield bows as well as swords.

Lenneth was once a young girl named Platina, however, she died while Lucian was attempting to save her from a life of slavery. After her death, she is summoned to Valhalla where she must meet with Lord Odin and Freya. There, she is tasked with gathering the souls of human warriors for the coming of Ragnarok. However, it soon becomes clear that a part of Lenneth is missing. She doesn't remember meeting Frei, or even having been to the human world before. This is because Freya has sealed her memories thinking it was best. Near the end ofthe game, with the help of Arngrim Mystinia and Lezard, Lenneth is able to remember her true past. But Odin and Freya learn of this; finding Lenneth no longer fit her fit for her task, her soul is removed and Hrist is awakened to take over the vessel of Valkyrie. Not willing to accept this, Arngrim, Mystina and Lezard (with the help of Brahms) defeat Hrist and combine what is left of Lenneth's soul with that of an half-elf homunculus. Now, like Odin, Lenneth has the ability to grow.

During the "Ending A", Loki destroys Valhalla and goes on to kill Lucian, Surt, and Odin. Soon after this Lenneth confronts Loki, where she comes to realize her true potential and gains the "Power of Creation". She then defeats Loki to become the Goddess of Creation and new ruler of Valhalla.
